We ship from Japan, so your order crosses an international border. Here's the honest picture — no fine print, no surprises.

How duties and taxes work

We ship on a Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis. Your destination country's customs authority — not Amanogawa — decides whether any import duty, VAT, GST, or handling fee applies to your order. Any such charge is billed by the carrier or post office on delivery and is the recipient's responsibility. It is not included in the price you pay us.

Good news for book lovers

Most of what we sell is printed books, and printed books are duty-free in many countries — including the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia. In practice, the large majority of book orders arrive with little or nothing extra to pay. We can't promise it for every destination, as local import VAT or a carrier handling fee may still apply in some countries.

Non-book items

Snacks, toys, homeware and other non-book products are more likely to attract duty or local tax once your order's value passes your country's duty-free (de minimis) threshold.

We play it straight
